It’s been a little over a week now since my first birth as a doula, and I am still overwhelmed at how amazing it was. Just 9 months ago I had my first child but this experience was so so different. I have always been a strong believer in things happening for a reason and everything happening at the right time. When I decided to leave my full time job to be a stay at home mom I was already bouncing around the idea of becoming a doula, but I wasn’t really sure when that would happen.
One Saturday night a couple weeks before my last day I got a text from a friend saying they were expecting and that she had a couple questions about pregnancy and advice. The very next morning ANOTHER friend texted me saying the same! I was beyond excited to share the information and experiences I have about pregnancy with them and so ecstatic for their families to grow. But even better it finally hit me, the universe was like “Hey Erika, this is it. Your time is now!” because when I happen to look up the next DONA International Birth Doula Workshop it was the week after my last day of work and the last weekend my mother would be here. Talk about PERFECT timing!
The workshop was amazing! I learned so much that weekend about everything and met some awesome women who were also on their doula journeys. Now out into the world we go!
